Lieder Company Prague’s partnership with Salsita Software has given birth to the idea of a series of benefit concerts, which will start on 5 February 2023 at 6 pm at Club Salsita in Prague’s Smíchov district.

The year-long war in Ukraine has received a lot of humanitarian attention, but we should not forget about other world problems that have not disappeared, they are just not heard about as much. That’s why the organizers decided to support the Itibo humanitarian medical facility in south-western African Kenya with this project.

This facility was created at the instigation of Czech medic Ales Barta in 2005 and operates under the auspices of the non-governmental humanitarian organization ADRA o.p.s. The project is aimed at providing health care to people from a wide area, improving the quality of health care and educating medical staff. Funding for the project is provided by sponsor donations, which have already enabled the renovation of dilapidated outpatient clinics and laboratories, as well as the construction of new parts such as a dental clinic, a maternity ward, an intensive care unit and improved diagnostics using ultrasound and ECG. Based on the cooperation with Czech doctors and medical faculties, many doctors and medics from all over the Czech Republic are involved in the activities. Thanks to this cooperation, around 9,000 patients with various types of injuries are treated annually at Itib, hundreds of babies are born in the maternity ward, and preventive dental care is also provided. In 2015, a documentary film Far Beyond the Sun by director and cinematographer Olga Maliřová Špátová was made about this project for HBO. It will be screened after this concert with a short introduction by her.

The protagonists of the benefit concert are leading Czech singers: soprano Jana Sibera, last year’s winner of the Thalia Award, baritones Roman Janál, soloist of the National Theatre Opera in Prague, and Robin Červinek, last year’s absolute winner of the International A. Dvořák Singing Competition in Karlovy Vary, and young tenor Ondřej Holub. Jan Dušek will play the piano parts. All perform without remuneration, the proceeds of the concert are donated to the aforementioned humanitarian project Itibo.

The programme of the concert consists of popular songs and duets by the masters of classicism and romanticism. Smetana, F. Schubert, F. Schubert, F. Schubert, F. Smetana and above all A. Dvořák. The evening is moderated by Radka Fidlerová and Milan Lukáš Šnajdr.

The concert will take place in the unconventional space of the private Club Salsita in Prague’s Smíchov district, which will be opened to the public. Visitors have the opportunity to choose their own entrance fee, which starts at 100 CZK. Tickets can be purchased either in the GoOut pre-sale or at the venue one hour before the concert.
