In Colours of France (Sibera & Janál & Košárek)

5 / 6 / 2022 at 19:30

02 Sibera Janal Kosarek 1

This year we are commemorating several anniversaries of French composers – including 200 years since the birth of César Franck, 160 years since the birth of Claude Debussy and 60 years since the death of Jacques Ibert.

We have therefore decided to compile an evening of their songs and entrust them to the best Czech interpreters: soprano Jana Sibera and baritone Roman Janál will perform together with the excellent pianist Karel Košárek.

César Franck’s song output does not represent any complete cycles, only individual songs. They are rarely performed on concert stages, not only in this country, so we present a selection of the most impressive ones. We also rarely think of Claude Debussy as a song composer, even though his legacy in this field is extremely rich. This concert will feature his culminating two-part song cycle set to Paul Verlaine’s poems, Fêtes Galantes. The lesser performed but very interesting French composer Jacques Ibert will be represented by two of his quite contrasting song cycles.

Programme:

  • César Franck: Mélodies
  • Claude Debussy: Fêtes Galantes I & II
  • Jacques Ibert: Chansons de Don Quichotte; Deux Chansons de Melpoméne

Performers:

  • Jana Sibera – soprano
  • Roman Janál – baritone
  • Karel Košárek – piano

The works will be performed French and accompanied by Czech subtitles.
